Spotlight on Mita Mahato—Seattle Artist!

Enormous appreciation to Mita Mahato, the talented Seattle-based artist who provided the artwork for the most recent WITS anthology, Gliding Between the Land of This and That!

Mahato is a multi-media artist working at the intersection of cut paper, collage, comix, and poetic experimentation. She is a career educator, a board member with Short Run Seattle, and currently is the Associate Curator of Public and Youth Programs at the Henry Art Gallery and Affiliate Faculty with the School of Art at the University of Washington. Her collected book of poetry comix, In Between, is listed in The Best American Comics: The Notable Comics of 2019.

Mahato’s visual poem “Lullaby” appeared in the literary journal Shenandoah (no. 68, V 1. November, 2018). (See a page from “Lullaby” below, and the adaptation of it on the WITS anthology cover, book design by Cara Sutherland.)
