“Newer Skeletons,” by Gina Rangel-Gross

Newer Skeletons
(Or, A Turn of Events I Never
Would Have Anticipated
But Am Not Complaining About)

we are starting to see each other like x-rays.

starting to

carefully

examine

each
other, (exciting)

& ive been examining myself too.
(powerful)

i love this. how else could i learn

so much about bodies

without seeing every

inch
and every bone?

it’s a little close and
(personal),

a little new and slightly weird

but… anything for the sake

of science

Gina Rangel-Gross wrote this poem while a student at Roosevelt High School, with WITS Writer Emily Bedard. Performed at the Seattle Arts & Lectures 2015/16 SAL Presents series with Siddhartha Mukherjee, May 23rd, 2016.
