“Home and No Home,” by Draven Villwock-Taylor

Home and No Home

There’s a person that
can come home to a home
with a light
on the table
and there’s someone
that can come home
to a home with a light on
the balcony

And there’s another person
that can come home to
a home with a chandelier on
the ceiling
but there’s somebody that
has to come home to
a home with a light on
the grass where the worms rest.

Draven Villwock-Taylor wrote this poem while a 4th Grader at Alki Elementary School, with WITS Writer Jeanine Walker. Performed at Seattle Arts & Lectures’ Literary Arts Series event with Katherine Boo at Benaroya Hall on January 28, 2019.
