Cambrie Nelson

When not busy with the SAL board, Cambrie is busy raising two little ones, providing business advisory services to local organizations, gathering colleagues or friends to read poetry, and attempting to play (the drums or someone in 1:1 on the neighborhood basketball court).

Currently, Cambrie is Director & Chief of Staff of one of the divisions at the Gates Foundation.

On her desk you will find “Table Topics” conversation cards, seasonings (salt, pepper, hot sauce), and anthologies (poetry, short stories, history).

As a kid, Cambrie loved Virginia Hamilton children’s books because they told folktales that felt like the passing down of more than just a good story.

While her personal motto changes from time to time, at this moment it is: “I’m not afraid of failure. I’m afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.” – William Carey by way of Drs. Catherine Kyobutungi
