The breakfast raises funds for SAL’s Writers in the Schools (WITS) program, which places professional writers in local schools for year-long residencies to teach creative writing in close partnership with classroom teachers.
As a result, students gain essential literacy skills that support them throughout their lives, teachers develop new innovative teaching skills, and local writers are employed to inspire the next generation of writers and readers.
