Best known as the beloved booksellers behind Open Books: A Poem Emporium, Deavel and Marshall also, in the last years, celebrated the publications of their first volumes.
Deavel’s book, Woodnote (2011), won a Washington State Book Award. Marshall’s most recent book and Field Prize winner, Meaning A Cloud (2008), was described by Poets & Writers as “informed by poetic tradition but shaped by delirious risk-taking.” His 2001 chapbook, Blue Mouth, was a Washington State Book Award finalist.
