An Update on SAL’s Executive Director Search

Dear SAL Community,

On behalf of SAL’s Executive Director Search Committee, we’re pleased to update you on our process. Our Search Committee of nine includes SAL Board members, a SAL staff member, a writer from our Writers in the Schools program, and a local arts sector leader.

We’ve been working in close partnership with Koya Partners to conduct a nationwide search for an Executive Director. Koya is a leading firm dedicated to placing exceptionally talented leadership at mission-driven organizations. The firm was founded by women and is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Read more about their commitment to these values. Founding Partner Molly Brennan and Associate Amber Brown are leading our search.

The SAL Executive Director position generated significant interest, with over fifty applicants from major cities across the country as well as throughout the Pacific Northwest. After interviews and a written questionnaire, we’ve narrowed the list to three outstanding final candidates who value SAL’s mission, values, and strategic initiatives as well as SAL’s unique role within our community. The next step will be staff interviews with each of the three candidates.

While the search committee will take the time necessary to identify the best candidate for recommendation to the full board, we do expect to have the position filled before the year’s end. In the meantime, if you have questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to us at sal@lectures.org.

We’re all excited for SAL’s next chapter and continuing our work to cultivate transformative experiences through story and language with readers and writers of all ages.
