Summer Book Bingo is designed to provide free summer reading fun for both adults and kids. Last summer, participants read a total of 8717 books, and we received a whopping 248 blackout cards and 227 bingo cards—let’s do it again! I went to see Hamilton in Chicago in late May with one of my bookclubs, so I took my 800-page copy around the world with me on my sabbatical from February to May, and had to split the book in half to make it lay flat in my backpack!

The Guineveres, Sarah Domet
The Guineveres was the first book I read on my sabbatical. It was recommended by a good friend who went to college with the author. It is a beautifully written and riveting story, and the best book I’ve read so far in 2017.
The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood
I just got The Handmaid’s Tale over the July 4th weekend; my other bookclub met on Tuesday to discuss it. I’m slowly watching the Hulu series, but need to space it out because it is even scarier than the book, especially given our current political climate. I’m really glad I read the book first before watching the show!

Today Will Be Different, Maria Semple
I bought Today Will Be Different at SeaTac Airport on a trip to L.A. and finished it on my flight home. I thoroughly enjoyed it and could not stop laughing and crying with the main character’s very bad day.
