Faces of SAL: Sunny Hong

Welcome to the SAL board, Sunny Hong!

To welcome Sunny  to the board, we spoke to her about her favorite SAL events, her history of volunteering, and her work on the board . . .

What does working as a SAL board member really mean? What do you do all day?
I serve SAL by ensuring the organization fulfills its legal duties and prudently manages its assets. I also support the staff to advance SAL’s mission, uphold its values, and act as an ambassador for SAL in our community.

What’s on your desk?
A ThinkPad for work, an ancient MacBook Pro, a pair of Bose noise-canceling headphones, but most importantly, one of my cats, usually Emma.

Favorite SAL event (and why)?
Each new SAL event I attend becomes my favorite event. The diversity of guests, ideas, and stories I’ve experienced at SAL has informed, inspired, and uplifted me.

Before I came to this position, I . . .
I have been a SAL volunteer since 2021. I joined the Words Bloom committee last fall, working alongside board members and other volunteers to host the 2022 SAL gala. I previously served on the board of directors of the VERA Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to youth-driven engagement in music and art.

What’s your ideal Sunday?
My ideal Sunday includes a savory brunch, hot black coffee, no scheduled commitments, and uninterrupted time to read.

Thank you so much, Sunny! We’re so thrilled to have you on the SAL board!
