A Letter from the SAL Board

Dear SAL community,

We are writing to provide an update on our search for the next Executive Director! The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Search Committee has engaged Koya Partners to conduct our search.

Koya is a leading firm dedicated to placing exceptionally talented leadership at mission-driven organizations. Koya is actually the firm responsible for recruiting Ruth to the National Book Foundation, as well as other relevant searches across the country such as 826 Boston, Youth Speaks, EdSource, Washington Women’s Foundation, Grantmakers in the Arts, and Narrative Initiative. The firm was founded by women and is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Read more about their commitment to these values here. Founding Partner Molly Brennan and Associate Amber Brown will lead our search. Koya will work in close partnership with our Search Committee throughout the entire process.

We promise to continue to update you regularly during the search process, which we expect to take approximately five months. In the meantime, if you have questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]. And though Ruth’s departure is bittersweet, we are all excited for our next chapter and to continue to work together to cultivate transformative experiences through story and language with readers and writers of all ages.

Sincerely,

Melanie Curtice
