You are cordially invited to SAL's annual Benefit Dinner and Literary Auction.
Your evening will include a conversation with authors Bruce Barcott and Claire Dederer, Washington State Poet Laureate & WITS Writer Kathleen Flenniken, performances by the Vis-a-Vis Society and much more.
 
 
 
Bruce Barcott and Claire Dederer
Bruce is a 2009 Guggenheim Fellow in non-fiction as well as the author of The Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw and The Measure of a Mountain: Beauty and Terror on Mt. Rainier.  He is also an environmental journalist whose articles have appeared in Outside Magazine, National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine and other publications. Claire is a long-time contributor to The New York Times. Her articles have appeared in Vogue, Real Simple, The Nation, New York, and The Yoga Journal, as well as online publications. Her best-selling memoir Poser: My Life in 23 Yoga Poses has been translated into 11 languages.

Washington State Poet Laureate & WITS Writer Kathleen Flenniken
Kathleen Flenniken, the 2012-2014 Washington State Poet Laureate, has been a SAL WITs teacher for the past 10 years. Her poems have appeared in The Iowa Review, Prairie Schooner, Poetry, The Writer's Almanac, Poetry Daily, American Life in Poetry, and many others. Flenniken's honors include fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Artist Trust, a Pushcart Prize, and grants from Artist Trust and the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
